at home and missing home, all at the same time.

I'm really enjoying working at home. Today I went to an overwhelmingly amazing fabric store in La Mesa. My friend Corey told me about it and I just HAD to check it out. I decided to be good and only buy fabrics that were on sale. Let me tell you, I wasn't disappointed with the selection.
I've been making headbands, bows, garters, chalkboards. I'm loving making things all day long. I'm loving being able to go outside when it's a gorgeous day. I love being able to enjoy a yummy mimosa with my lunch. I'm loving taking breaks and playing fetch with Patrick. Everything has been so great.
It was funny driving around in La Mesa today. It was warm and all of the streets reminded me of Vista (where I grew up). People in Vista know what I'm talking about: old buildings, white brick, hot sidewalks, mom and pop restaurants, & quilt shops. I felt like I was driving down a really really LONG N. Santa Fe Dr. If you've never been to Vista, you're probably thinking of something really charming, but if you have been to vista, you know it's the opposite :) It's the 70's kind of old that's not so charming, a little dirty, really brown and some would call it ghetto. That's how I always described Vista to people. However, today, I was loving it. I was having some sort of nostalgic feeling with the heat, the surroundings, and the hispanic community that I miss so much. You probably wouldn't have the same experience driving through downtown Vista unless you grew up there. [confession: Philip and I listen to mariachi music in the car when we're home sick. True story. People often think we're joking, but we really do love it :) ]
I realized that even though we love San Diego and living in Hillcrest, Vista will always have a soft spot in my heart. It's home to me. Realistically, we probably won't be able to buy the house that we really want in Hillcrest. We want a certain amount of bedrooms, a yard, etc. I think we'll end up in Vista which I'm ok with. It may not seem as exciting as where we are now, but it's home.

  1. Have you been to the National City swap meet. They have a whole row of fabric....
I really love that chalkboard that you posted about recently, by the way. So pretty.
