anyone else?

San Diego winters are confusing (I'm actually not convinced that winter is real). We had a lot of sunny Christmas days and the same has been true for January. It normally gets a little colder during February, but with all of this sunny weather, I don't know how I feel about that.  I'm already dreaming about the smell of jasmine, fresh raspberries, and days spent poolside with friends and mimosas. Am I allowed to be craving this when I haven't experienced much winter this year? I'm going to go with yes.

loft inspiration // living room

Here's a little inspiration round up for our living room. I'm noticing a trend in our decorating ideas: grays, white, and black with touches of metallic. I want that scheme in every corner of the house. I'll make sure to add a little more color here and there so that we don't get sick of too fast. We are both so excited to move and start setting up our house, but I need to actually get the house packed up before that happens.

I'm hoping to have a really productive packing/ cleaning day today! Later tonight, we're seeing The Howls at The Casbah. It's their CD release show, so it should be fun! We also have an engagement shoot this weekend and a birthday gathering. Needless to say, it's going to be pretty busy around here. What are your plans this weekend?

downsizing

Yeah, we're out of control. The amount of furniture that we were hoarding in our house is embarrassing. We sold over 15 pieces of furniture plus a ton of small nick knacks and housewares at our garage sale. We decided that with our move and new place it was time to downsize- big time! This even included a major decision to go down to sharing 1 car! Can you believe it?! (We're also selling one more big piece of furniture on craigslist if you're interested.)

Everyday since the garage sale, we've been finding more and more that we're ok to part with. I've been posting those items to Instagram and Facebook and they are gone! (It's actually a little addicting). We have always collected a lot of nick knacks and little things that clutter up our small space. We finally have an idea of what we want our home to look and feel like and it's way more minimal than it ever has been.

With this "new home" we have a few things to make + buy. Philip is making a lot of big pieces of furniture (coffee table, headboard, dining table, desks, etc.) That's going to save us a lot of money. Other things that have to be purchased will most likely be from amazon, craigslist, overstock or other affordable places. Then there are those few things that we have just decided to splurge on (like this sofa just to name one.)

I'm really excited to blog about each of these things as they happen (Like the two posts I already have planned for later this week.) Thanks for letting me share my excitement! :)

featured // decurate

What the wha?? Typewriter Boneyard is featured on Decurate this week! You can read Philip's story here. You can see what's for sale here.

In other news..I'm about to head to down to the leasing office of our future home to sign all of our paperwork. Yes, we found a loft! It's actually not the one from before that I said was perfect. It's a different building all together and even better than the first. (What a blessing!!) We couldn't be more excited about this new place and I can't wait to share what it looks like!

Happy Friday.

loft inspiration // work space

We think we have found the perfect loft! We haven't actually been inside it yet (we have an appt. for Monday), but we're pretty positive that it's the one. So much so, that we almost put a deposit down without seeing it. (We decided that's definitely not a good idea. Ever.)

With the excitement of a new place (especially since it's way bigger than our current house), we have been sketching out possible layouts. The one part that's a little unclear so far is our work space. We have 2 desks and a packaging/ storage unit yet to be built. Therefor, it's a little tough to figure out how this space will actually be laid out. One thing I'm loving is the idea of having a bar-like desk built against the wall. The loft that we're looking at has a few pillars in it, so it could very well be just like the one pictured. The extra side of the desk could be used as a cut table/ crafting area so that I won't get my computer area too cluttered or messy. Also, someone could sit on the opposite side and work there if needed (ahem, Azy). I also like that there are not table legs underneath. That means more space for storage/ leg room/ sleeping pups. The extra side of the desk also sections off this little corner, establishing it as a separate space without a wall or curtain...I think I'm sold.

perfect bathroom.

I love the overall brightness of this bathroom, but that there's also hints of dark (the wood, the frames, tiles). The size of that bathtub doesn't suck either.

What a great accent for those pure white walls that I love.

hardback book lamp winner.

Congratulations to Alli and Eric! You are the winners of our giveaway (and I'm so excited about your new baby girl!) Thank you to everyone who entered and tweeted about this. I really enjoyed reading what everyone was looking forward to this year. (We're doing a few more book lamp giveaways soon so check back for info on that!)

I hope everyone is enjoying today. We are getting ready for a garage sale this weekend. We have over 15 pieces of furniture to get rid of and lots of other small things. If you're in Hillcrest this weekend, you should stop by. We'll also be giving out coffee ;)

inspired.

I keep telling Philip that I want some sort of deer head mounted in our next place and that I want to make paper flowers to go with it. (The thought probably came from seeing this.) Now, after seeing both of these pictures, I'm positive that it will happen.

loft inspiration // room dividers

The thing I absolutely love about lofts is that they're all open. I like open, bright spaces with lots of light. kind of like this. However, I think there needs to be a little separation of some spaces (like a bedroom). Here are some ideas on dividing spaces.

diy photobooth under $10

The day before New Years Eve I went to Party City to grab a few things we needed for our dinner. Once I got there,  I just started grabbing a bunch of random decor with no real plan of what to do with them. That's the worst kind of shopping and it drives my husband crazy when I do it. Luckily I had a little self control and didn't go overboard on what I took to the check out stand with me. Cailen and I ended up making a photo booth and were really pleased with how it came out. Here's what I bought all for under $10:

-silver tinsel garland:
 $0.99 for 9ft

-gold star wire garland:
 $0.99 for 12ft

-small white paper fans
 $1.99 for a pack of 5

$0.99 for the pink and gold. $1.99 for the white with sparkles

TOTAL:  $7.94

The other great part is that with two of us it didn't take that long to set up. I cut the fringe in the tissue paper and Cailen hung them up (we hung everything with twine). Then I put up the tinsel, garland, and each paper fans. That's it.. then we instagramed it up.

glitter and gold.

A few of my instagram photos. (I'm beyond addicted.)

I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend! Cailen and I put together a little dinner on New Year's Eve. It was very mellow (just 5 of us), but lots of fun. We did a lot of last minute, simple DIYs that made our little dinner feel a lot more festive. I thought it would be fun to share those tomorrow( + maybe even a 'What I Wore' post).

Philip had work off from Friday until today. We soaked up as much time together as we could. It was amazing how long our weekend felt since we just let ourselves relax. I'm sad that he has to go to work tomorrow, but excited to start getting a feel for what my days will be like from now on. Hooray for working at home!

PS... have you entered our giveaway for the hardback book lamp?
