Here's a great idea from Annica's blog. You just need these four things (bonus if you already have some of them at home). Even if you don't have them already, they aren't that costly and the end result is definitely worth it. You could put this next to the bathtub like this. I think it would also make a great and simple side table next to the couch or a chair.

Earlier this month, I posted this color crush. Remember, I mentioned a DIY with that color scheme? Well, here it is [finally].
For some reason, our coffee table had me stumped. Philip built it, I love it, we use it constantly, but I didn't know how to style it. Luckily, just as I started to give up, Jessica posted about that very thing on her blog. Perfect! I now had a general idea of how to go about decorating our coffee table. I would have loved to just go out and buy a tray, but my list of things to buy for our new place isn't shrinking. I figured, this was a good time for a little DIY.

I would have loved to just go out and buy a tray, but my list of things to buy for our new place isn't shrinking. I figured, this was a good time for a little DIY.
It was pretty simple. I bought everything at Michael's (except for the painter's tape, which I already had). Michael's sells two sizes of trays (I went with the larger one). All the paint that I bought was from Martha Stewart's line.
1. Paint your tray the base color
2. Once it's dry, tape off your design and paint away!
That's it. Easy right? If you want perfect lines, make sure to measure and press firmly on the edges of the tape. I like that ours isn't perfect. ..PS: Here's another design idea for such a project.
Now that I had the tray done, I needed to actually style the coffee table. Ours is pretty simple. Below, I say "how it's styled for now" because knowing myself very well, I will most likely tire of this arrangement. I'm pretty ridiculous in that way and have to learn to let things go. Anyway, for now, we have magazines, the tray, fresh flowers, coasters, and a candle. All of these items are things we constantly use/ enjoy having around. The coasters and magazines are easy to use and put back neatly in their stack so it doesn't get too messy. Eventually, I would love to have a little stack of interior design books with something like this perched on top. All of this is usually pushed to one side of the coffee table. Until our dining table is done, this is where we eat.
How do you have your coffee table styled? Is it something that gets used a lot in your house or just something to prop your feet on?

home inspiration / house plants
I have a few house plants around our loft and no matter where they are, I feel like that space looks 10Xs etter! Even when I move them into the kitchen for watering, I think my kitchen instantly looks alive. I definitely plan on getting more, but I was extremely inspired when I found these photos. It's the home of designers Bonnie Ashley and Neil Downie of Bonnie and Neil. They design amazing home products, so of course their home is adorable. I love the draping plants displayed in their gorgeous shadow boxes. Such a great way to liven up a wall (literally).

inspired by // two toned
I've been really inspired by anything two toned lately. It's bold, yet simple. Also, I have been sketching new ideas lamps, chandeliers, and pendants everyday. I can't wait to sit down with Philip and see which ones are going to work. Hopefully we can start working on all of that once we move in.
Have a happy Friday!

loft inspiration // living room
Here's a little inspiration round up for our living room. I'm noticing a trend in our decorating ideas: grays, white, and black with touches of metallic. I want that scheme in every corner of the house. I'll make sure to add a little more color here and there so that we don't get sick of too fast. We are both so excited to move and start setting up our house, but I need to actually get the house packed up before that happens.
I'm hoping to have a really productive packing/ cleaning day today! Later tonight, we're seeing The Howls at The Casbah. It's their CD release show, so it should be fun! We also have an engagement shoot this weekend and a birthday gathering. Needless to say, it's going to be pretty busy around here. What are your plans this weekend?

perfect bathroom.
I love the overall brightness of this bathroom, but that there's also hints of dark (the wood, the frames, tiles). The size of that bathtub doesn't suck either.

loft inspiration // work space

Philip and I are looking at lofts for when our lease is up. We're really excited and are probably jumping the gun a little because our lease isn't up until March. That's ok, because we have fun looking.
We decided to look for a place that will really inspire us to work. That means great natural lighting, open layout, easy to clean floors (no carpet!!), bright walls, and a little brick wouldn't hurt either. (This place would be perfect, but probably won't be available in March).
We are planning on putting our full time and energy into Typewriter Boneyard starting at the beginning of next year. That means we need a proper work set up that includes a shipping area, computer desk space, and a work space that can get dirty. We've been sketching and planning all of this out and these three photos have been a big source of inspiration. Our favorite is the 1st one. We really like the idea of one huge desk that can be worked at from different sides.
What's important for you to be productive? Do you work better in pretty messes or in a neatly organized space?

interior inspiration

I took this photo after breakfast at the King's Highway at the Ace Hotel. This was our 2nd meal here and both were amazing!
Philip and I are planning on moving when our lease is up in March. We have been looking at lofts and talking about how we want ours to be arranged/ decorated. I would love a seat like this in our future home.

pinterest picks // pretty closet inspiration
One of the things on our house project list is a more organized and pretty closet. As of now, it is crammed with too many clothes (there are more Goodwill trips in our future). We don't have enough space for a decent sized laundry hamper, shoes, or purses. Also, our poorly designed closet doesn't open all the way, so there's a middle section where dresses and coats get forgotten (so sad, I know). I've rounded up a few ideas for an organized closet (all from this pinboard):

source from left ro right, top to bottom:
Our first plan is to build a garment rack for my dresses and coats. They take up lots of space in our little closet and I would definitely wear them more if I saw them. Also, who doesn't like seeing their dresses all displayed together?
If you are using an exposed rack of sorts as a closet, sometimes it can look a little bare or random on a big wall or in a big room. You can always hang clippings, framed pictures, numbers or words around or above it to section it off as it's own space.
Huge mirrors propped against the wall: they always look awesome, right? The mirror makes your space feel larger (never bad for a closet) and (duh) you need a mirror when you're trying on clothes.
