Battle for the couch

Patrick stole Francine's spot on the top of the couch. Now Francine is watching him from across the room waiting to make her move... Do your pets like to climb to the highest spot on the furniture?

call me the crazy cat lady.

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9

I've noticed that people are either crazy about cats or hate them. Personally, I love them. With the chance of sounding crazy, here are a few things I love about my kitty, Francine: her soft fur, her cute nose, her teeny tiny teeth, her cute little meow when she wakes up, her OCD tendencies, and I like the way she smells (yes, I know that one's really weird).

So, there, that's my secret: I'm a crazy cat lady. That's ok because I have plenty of friends who are crazy about cats too. Maybe we'll start a club.

summer dinner.

We had some friends over last night for dinner and had lots if fun! We don't have anywhere to sit when friends come over. Since it's summer time, I figured that outside was the best option. I wasn't sure if our little table was going to fit four of us, but I definitely knew it wouldn't fit our serving dishes. I set up a few make shift side tables and we all fit just fine. Problem solved.

In all fairness, he didn't call seat check.

I'm not sure why, but Kaitie and I like to dress up our kitties. It started out with Tyler's sunglasses and just escalated from there. Soon we had a very grumpy and angry kitten who didn't want anyone to hold her. Can you really blame her?

at home with sigur ros and animals.

Francine loves to be in the middle of what everyone else is doing. Apparently, that's the best place to nap. My fabric storage is at the top of our staircase in our bedroom. It's in the corner of two sunny windows, so naturally, it's her favorite spot. Kitty fur doen't look very good on my pretty fabrics and I'm sick of lint rolling and having to wash everything again. I finally put things on the top shelf (on top of the fabric) so that she couldn't lay there, but she decided to just use the shelves below.
When I'm in the middle of moving her again and telling her 'no', Patrick just stares curiously from down below. He wants her to play with him so bad. Whenever he sees her, he gets so excited. He dances and wiggles in a circle around her in excitement. She just growls and jumps up where he can't reach her. It's so sad. But Im grateful that no matter how bad she's annoyed with him (or me for forcibly holding their faces next to each other) she's never used her claws (on either of us). She's a good kitty (even when she's grumpy).

I've been away from the computer a lot this past week. It's really nice. It's so easy to fall into those computer comas all day after thinking that I'm going to just check something really quick (yeah right). That's the reason for the quiet around here. I still have a lot of things that I'm working on today, but wanted to say hello ;) I'm doing my work in the sunroom and listening while the Heima video plays in the background. Have you seen it? Sigur Ros is one of my all time favorite bands (and #1 favorite performance EVER!) and this film NEVER gets old. If you like them, you should definitely buy this one! It's great to have on while you are creating or cleaning or doing anything at home. (PS- there's a ton of bonus footage! The first time that I discovered it, I thought it would never end. It's awesome.)
This is my favorite song that they wrote. I would pay the full cost of a ticket just to see them perform this live. It's the most incredible experience. (Also amazing: driving around and listening to it really loud while it's raining).

I'll be choosing a winner for the giveaway tomorrow. You have until midnight tonight to enter!

one of those days.

It's about 85 degrees outside. The heat takes a lot out of you.

I know I just posted, but I was walking upstairs and found this sleepy little duo. I had to share ♥

For Diane.

My friend, Diane, loves puppies and kittens. Who doesn't, right? Well, she ONLY likes them when they're little. She looses interest in them when they get bigger. I'm finally learning to understand and accept this about her. She didn't grow up with animals in her house, so I guess it's forgivable. ;)
Diane is currently living in Santa Barbra which is a pretty long drive from San Diego. She hasn't seen Patrick in a while. When I told her that he's is getting bigger this was her response : "NOOOOOOOOO! I'm missing the best years of his life!"
HAHA! She's funny like that. These pictures are so that she can see how cute he still is (and Francine too).

Oh, Wednesday

I have been so productive lately and it makes me so happy! Today was one of those days. I have Wednesdays off of work and had a whole list of things that needed to get done. Guess what? The whole list is crossed off! Let me tell you what, these were not fun things: going to the DMV, getting the oil changed in my car, and cleaning out my car. They all got done and did not take as long as I thought.
Some other things on my list were enjoyable, but still on the list. I had a couple of custom orders to finish and mail out, e-mails to respond to, and pictures to take for the shop. Fun!
Because of this day, I didn't get to take any fun pictures while I was out and about. Today's color from Poppytalk's Winter Colours Week is blue. I took these around the house once I got home.

I also took some pictures of Francine. No matter where I put fabric, she wants to sleep in it. I watched her pull the tulle out of this bag just to make herself right at home [I wouldn't want to sleep on itchy tulle either].

I died laughing when I saw that last picture! She looks like she was winking at Philip ;)

Later, I came back and she had fallen asleep. Sometimes during the day [maybe it's too bright?] she covers her face with her arm. I think it's the cutest thing ever!

Enemies. For now.

In case you didn't know [new readers], I am the proud momma of a kitty and a new puppy. I've had Francine since before Philip and I were married. She is very comfortable in our home and thinks of herself as the queen [im sure].

Whenever we were talking about getting a dog, I was a little worried about how Francine would do. When Patrick became part of the family, I was pleasantly surprised by Francine's tolerance of him. [As of now, that's all it is]
She will let him come up and sniff her. She will even approach him sometimes. However, as this is happening, she's always giving him a 'warning growl'. She's never used claws to strike at him. She just uses her powder puff paws and gives him a little bop on the head. Usually the growl is enough for him to back off, but sometimes when he's really excited to see her, he gets the bop.
Because of this odd relationship, I can seem to take any pictures of them together.
[When I do, they look like this]

Hah! Irritated kitty and curious puppy going in for the pounce. [poor little guy doesn't anticipate the outcome].
So for now, all pictures I take of them are usually with a good amount of distance between them...at least they're in the same frame.

I'm grateful that they can be in the yard together or on the couch at the same time. I'm secretly hoping to find them doing this when I come home one day:
