weekend recap // street fairs and organizing

Yesterday was the Adam's Avenue Street Fair. Tumbleweed's Odd Shop is on Adam's, so we stopped by for a quick visit and to stroll the fair. I could stay in there forever looking through all of the goodies that Beca, Doug, and Shawn have collected. Also, I got to see these one-of-a kind pair of sunglasses that Doug recently crafted. They are amazing up close!

After the fair, we went home to clean and organize. We got rid of a ton of stuff that we don't need (doesn't that always feel refreshing?!). We aren't even close to being finished, but it was a great start. We need to clear extra space in our house, because we are starting a huge project that is taking over the entire downstairs. Philip is going to be selling some of his work through fab.com at the end of next month. That means that the two of us are making book lamps and pendant lamps almost everyday until that weekend. This was part of the reason that I closed my shop this week. In fact, I'm going to keep it closed for a little while longer while until we get things in order. It's just insane around here and I don't have enough time to give full attention to the shop.

This morning we enjoyed the cold weather while sipping coffee at Influx. We stopped by for some coffee and to talk out our game plan for the next couple of months. It was a refreshing way to start the morning. Now back to organizing! How did you enjoy your weekend?

weekend.

My nephew turned 1 today! How did that go by so fast? I feel like I just wrote this post. I guess not. Jesse and Becky took these adorable pictures of him with a smash cake. It looks like he had SO much fun! :)

We are having a birthday party for him tonight. It will be fun to see him and hang out with my family. Tomorrow I get to have a sleepover with a bunch of girlfriends. Haha, yep. It's being hosted by my friend's husband (how sweet is that?). I feel like I enjoy sleepovers even more now that I'm all gown up. Maybe because I appreciate one after a long week of work...and a glass of sangria with my girlfriends ;)

What are your plans for the weekend?

yeah, it's hot.

I took these pictures of Patrick being cute yesterday. He loves the sunlit stairs in the morning. Today, however, we are all trying to stay away from the sun and out of the heat. It's almost 90 degrees in San Diego. We're pretty spoiled when it comes to the weather, so we're all complaining about it big time (at least it's not humid!). Philip was very strategic about which blinds to shut, which windows to open and where to put our only floor fan. It's now much cooler in here. He is very handy to have around ;)

We're watching more 30 Rock, staying awake with iced coffee, and working on more orders. Did you get to do anything fun this weekend?

weekends together

Philip and I made the decision a while back to spend more weekends together. There was a while there (about 3 months) when we were driving up to north county every single weekend. As much as we were enjoying seeing our family and friends all the time, we weren't getting much time together at home. The decision to spend more time at home has been great!

On Sunday we took Patrick on a walk before heading home to work all night. We both had orders to finish and desserts to eat. (I got to bring a bunch of desserts home from work this weekend.) I've really been enjoying these weekends together.

city fest.

City Fest was today. We walked around, did some shopping, had a drink, and ate some yummy food. Of course I took some pictures...

Did you and your friends wear sofee shorts in high school? My friends and I had a pair in every color but always rolled the tops down to make them shorter. I bought some the other day to exercise in and realized that they're actually kind of cute. The best part- they're only $6.99! So sweet :)

christmas in july.

This past weekend Diane and I hosted our ridiculously early Christmas party. Normally we have one in October or November when it starts to get a little cold. This year, we just couldn't wait.

We decorated cookies, played some sort of beer pong, took family portraits, and watched Elf. It was amazing to celebrate Christmas with so many people. Our friends are fun :)

what i wore confessions.

I'm not a huge fan of doing these "what I wore" posts. I have a lifetime of reasons and insecurities to explain why (as I'm sure most women do), but I'll save that for another post. Personally, I enjoy reading outfit posts from other bloggers that I can relate to and hope that mine can be as well. Philip and I don't have money to just shop whenever we want and when we do, it's usually at Forever 21, Target,Buffalo Exchange or various thrift stores. Besides that blue dress I bought a few weekends back, I think the last time that I bought clothing was when I worked for Starbucks. Even then, it was usually one item every now and then with my tip money from the week before. For a while, I wasn't really happy with my closet and just wanted to start a new one. That is a completely unrealistic idea, so I decided to just be more creative with what I do own. Hopefully posting these pictures more often will inspire me to stick with that decision to not complain about my closet.

laura's baby shower.

I had lots of fun putting this shower together for my sister-in-law. This is her 2nd and we're so excited to meet her little one :)

1. I made this congratulations banner by following this tutorial.
2. I made these little buttons for Laura and Skyla to wear.
3. Cailen (my brother-in-laws girlfriend) made these yummy cupcakes and I made the flag toppers (soon to be available in the shop).
4. I was really happy with how these little favor bags turned out. They were so easy to make. Cailen made the cute favors for all of our guests.

1. So many lovely ladies came to celebrate with us.
2. Skyla was a great helper.
3. Me, Laura, and Cailen. I wore my Ellie Paper Flower Headband for the occasion :)

1. We had turkey wraps for lunch.
2. I had so much wonderful help with the party. I love potlucks and enjoying so many different foods. yum.

After the shower, Philip and I hung out with Jake and Natalie. That meant we got to see this handsome man. He's getting so big!

mary jane and the hat.

We had another great and eventful weekend. A baby shower, a going away party, a graduation, a day spent with dear friends, a visit to Chuck E. Cheese, and more precious time with the little ones. I'll share pictures from the baby shower this week. I'm ready to fall asleep in our cozy bed wearing my comfy sweat pants.

I took these pictures of Mary Jane today. She loves tummy time and chewing her hand. She was very happy and chirpy today (as usual). She makes the sweetest sounds (very high and girlie). Because of these sounds, her papa calls her squirrel.
