garden roundup.

I love plants, but we don't have much room in our yard for a garden. Room isn't the only problem. Two rowdy dogs run back and fourth through our tiny yard most days and don't have the courtesy to run around the plants. Most of our plants are potted and away from the dogs.
Also, it seems like the closer you get to the city, the smaller or less frequent yards become. Here are some creative ideas for having a garden when you don't exactly have the space for one.

a couple of silly videos.

I stayed with my grandma for three days this week. My sister is leaving for Germany this month, so I've been spending as much time with my family as I can. We all went to the beach together, hung out by the pool, ate good food, played with babies, stayed up way too late visiting and laughing, and I even tried working out with my sisters (I gave up after a few minutes).
With 8 people, 2 babies, and 1 puppy in one room, we also had 2 laptops, 4 smart phones, 1 iPad, and 1 TV. We watched a lot of funny YouTube videos this week, especially these 2. I think this first one is hilarious and want to watch it all the time. The second one is just adorable.

summer hair.

I'm probably the last person that should be sharing hair advice. However, that's what might make these styles even better. If I can do these, you can do it too.
Joanna Goddard posts great hair tutorials that anyone can do. I thought that these are great ideas for spring and summer. They would work great for a day at the beach, a sunny bike ride, or just lounging around in a cute dress.

When I was working at Starbucks, I had to wear my hair out of my face. When I woke up early enough to do my hair and makeup, I usually rocked this pony tail. It's very easy to do and I always got lots of compliments.

Accessory tip: wear a big bow right above the pony tail to cover up the bobby pins.

I love a messy bun. This style is perfect for when you're running out the door and need to do something quick and cute.

Accessory tip: You can wear an oversized bow on the back of your head right below the bun (like the bun is sitting on top of the bow). Another idea is to pin a smaller bow or flower on the side of the bun.

Maiden braids are really fun and they keep your hair out of your face. My experience is that when you braid your hair, pull apart the braid a little, making it slightly loose. If you have thick hair, you probably don't have to worry about that.

Accessory tip: Try braiding a pretty strip of fabric or piece of yarn with your hair to add a little extra something.

baby shower inspiration.

I'm throwing my sister-in-law a baby shower this month. I'm really excited! In all of my spare time, I've been thinking, sketching, and planning. I wanted to share some inspiration photos with you.

The first time I saw this color scheme, I fell in love. I knew I wanted to use it at the shower. I think it will match our theme very well.
The theme of our party is vintage paper doll. I'm thinking of having paper dolls or vintage dresses for baby girl strung on a clothes line. I want to incorporate a lot of other paper decor as well. 1//2

I can't decide between these two for favor packaging. I think that the scarf wrapped packages are so fun and playful. I also like the simplicity of the brown boxes, twine, and colorful flowers.

I have a couple of menu ideas right now. Aren't these mason jars are so cute with the ribbon tied around them? They would make any drink pretty. For lunch, we'll be enjoying a platter of turkey wraps and a couple summer salads.

I like how easy and pretty these different garlands are. I also love how they fit in with the paper theme.

Cupcakes are for dessert (of course). Cailen (my one day sister-in-law) makes the prettiest cupcakes and I'm excited to see what she makes :)

Wow! Sharing all of this made me realize how much I still have left to do. I usually procrastinate on things like this. I like to say that I work better under pressure, but that usually means a sleepless night before the shower. I really need to stop doing that.

Wow, we're just blowin' through nap time, aren't we?

Now that I'm working from home, I have been watching a lot of TV. I usually have some sort of movie or show paying while I work. My favorite: Arrested Development. This is the show that I can watch over and over without getting sick of it. Sadly, this was a show that was cancelled after 3 seasons. However, there's so much going on in each episode that it feels much longer than that.

You can watch the entire series on Netflix's instant watch. If you haven't seen it before, you should give it a try. It's so funny!

I love all of the characters, but I think Buster is my favorite. Do you watch this show? If so, who's your favorite character? If not, what's the one tv show you can watch over and over again?

discount.

It's hot here in San Diego. All I want to do is be outside, wear a dress, and eat strawberries. (PS- sliced strawberries in Bear Claw Ice Cream is the best!!! )

what's for lunch?

One of the things that I love about working from home is eating better meals. When I worked at Starbucks, I was usually late and didn't have time to make myself anything. When you wake up early for work, you you tend to chose snoozing over making lunch.

I really enjoy making myself a good sandwich. There are certain things that my sandwiches must have for me to consider them a great sandwich.

1. Avocado. If I go to a cafe and they don't have avocado, I'll usually order something other than a sandwich.

2. Sour dough bread. The texture and taste of sour dough is by far my favorite. I hate when restaurants say that they serve sour dough and bring out what tastes and feels like white bread.

3. Can I get it grilled? I'd rather have my bread grilled, not toasted. Toasted usually means that they just toast the bread. When that happens, it's normally too crunchy and not fun to eat. When you grill a sandwich, the cheese melts, the bread has a perfect crispiness to it, and the meat is nice and warm.

Some people might call me picky, but I know a good sandwich when I eat it. It's one of those little things that I enjoy in life.

This was yesterday's lunch (pictured above):
